Todd Helton to make spot start for Aaron Cook?

As much as I would like to see somebody, anybody start instead of Aaron Cook, it looks as though he will once again get an opportunity to win his first game of the season. Didn't Todd Helton pitch for the University of Tennessee? While it might not be wise for the aging Helton to pitch, the results would most likely be the same if not better than what Aaron Cook has accomplished this season. I am struggling to find reasons as to why Cook is still on the Rockies. Do they honestly believe they can compete for the pitching heavy division without Jorge De La Rosa and Cook starting in his place?

Now back to reality... The Rockies dont have the money to compete with the Giants. The Giants have rotation to idolize and the money to spend improving the team before the trade deadline. In other words, the Rockies might be able to trade for or sign a jalopy with a milion miles but wishing for much more than that is unrealistic. So what options do the Rockies have to fix the rotation full of holes? Greg Reynolds, The Rockies highest selection ever has turned out to be a 30th rounder so probably not him. The Rockies have selected a bevy of pitchers in the last few drafts but none have really separated themselves from the pack. Lefty pitcher Christian Friedrich has the potential and is currently in AA Tulsa, and the Rockies will likely wait until the team is 15 games out of first place before he makes an appearance.

About this time every year, Rockies fans are hooked and implore their team to spend money and make moves to compete for the division. This year is no different, but I wish Santa Clause would give us the gift of a new General Manager. The Rockies players possess a large responsiblilty for this lackluster season, but let us not forget who makes the decisions of which players are on the team. The Rockies G.M. must take responsibility for risky off-season moves. The Monforts are unlikely to relieve O'Dowd because its still 2007 and we're sooooo close to winning it all.

Who should the Rockies use instead of Aaron Cook? Does O'Dowd deserve his share of the blame for the Rockies sub standard season?
