Rockies win 9 in a row, need 3 more for record

Just a few weeks ago the Rockies were playing bad baseball. They couldn't win close games and struggled at key times during games. Since Jim Tracy took over for Clint Hurdle as the Rockies Manager, the team is playing great baseball. The players are mainly the same, but the Rockies did add Carlos Gonzalez and Paul Phillips from AAA Colorado Springs. The teams the Rockies have beaten are among the leaders of their divisions (Astros, Brewers, Cardinals, Mariners). The Rockies started playing their best baseball against some of the best competition in the National League.
Instead of planning for 2010, the Rockies are looking to break the franchise record in consecutive wins (11 - record set in 2007). With 9 wins down, the Rockies can set the record with 3 more wins. If they can get the 3 wins to break the record, they'll also get their season record to .500, at 32-32. As of today, the Rockies are 3.5 games back in the wild card race. It's early to be talking wild card and playoffs, but when the Rockies are playing great baseball, it gets exciting in Denver. I'm calling it right now, the Rockies will get to 15 wins in a row. Their record will be 36-32 and Rockies fans will be hoping for another chance at the playoffs.
Win streak notes:
- Ian Stewart was the National League Player of the Week last week (for his home runs and highlight reel plays at 3rd).
- Clint Barmes raised his batting average over 70 points, he's now hitting .292.
- Troy Tulowitzki has hit .500 with 3 home runs in his last five games.
- The starting pitchers (Aaron Cook, Ubaldo Jimenez, Jason Marquis, Jorge De La Rosa, Jason Hammel have the win in 9 straight games. Normally over a win streak, relievers get wins as well, not this time though.
- 8 wins on the road (1 in Houston, 4 in St. Louis, 3 in Milwaukee).
- 1 win in interleague play, against the Seattle Mariners last night at Coors Field.
- Matt Holliday trade working well for the Rockies - Carlos Gonzalez was called up and has already shown great defense in left field. Huston Street has been closing out games the way he did in his first couple years in Oakland.
- Jim Tracy is now 11-4 as the Rockies manager. Sorry Clint, I'm sure it's hard to watch.

Well that three games is down to one, being the Tampa Bay Rays. The game is here at Coors Field and has Jorge De La Rosa matching up against Jeff Niemann in the Rockies 3rd Interleague series of the year. Tampa is 3rd in the AL East and riding a 5 game win streak, but they are running into a much hotter squad in the Rox. I think the Rockies will break the record and allow De La Rosa to get his 1st win at home this year. Confidence and swagger is a huge thing in baseball, and the 09 Rox seem to be building it right now. The guys still here from 07 know how it helps, and it is great to see this early in the season.

Well I was hoping that Jorge of the Rose would come out strong and give us a chance to win our 12th straight. Unfortunately he didn't show up and is now 0-5 at Coors Field this year, Ouch! Find some way to trade for Roy Oswalt, even if it is renting him for this year and next.
