Will Knowshon Moreno start for the Broncos?

The Broncos surprised most football analysts and fans with their draft in 2009. The biggest surprise of all their pics was Knowshon Moreno (former Georgia running back) with the 12th overall pick. Many Broncos followers and NFL experts, thought the Broncos would draft mostly defensive players. The Broncos had one their worst defenses in team history last season. From what I saw of him in college, the Broncos will have one of the best running backs in the league...when he gets the starting spot. One of the biggest stories in the Broncos 2009 Training Camp will be whether or not Moreno gets the starting running back spot.
Currently, Knowshon Moreno is the 3rd running back for the Broncos. He's behind offseason free agent signees Correll Buckhalter and Lamont Jordan, for mainly one reason. The Broncos offense is supposed to be one of the most complex in the league. Josh McDaniels is sort of like Mike Shanahan was when he took the Broncos head coaching job in 1995. McDaniels and Shanahan were assistants on Super Bowl winning teams. Not only were both of them assistants on Super Bowl winners, they were offensive coordinators for two of the best offenses ever, and considered offensive masterminds. McDaniels expects his players to learn quickly and to avoid mental mistakes. The biggest hurdle for Knowshon Moreno will be learning a very complex offense and being able to play without rookie mental errors. This is why he's currently the 3rd running back and not the first.
If you're not convinced Knowshon Moreno is a stud running back, check out you tube videos here: social.denversportsblog.com. I think Moreno will be named the starter somewhere in the 2nd or 3rd week of preseason. Once he gets used to the offense and a little game action, he'll take over for Buckhalter and Jordan. The backfield this season could be a potent combination of Knowshon Moreno and Peyton Hills. Both of them are good runners, recievers and blockers. Defenses will have a difficult task of stopping both of them coming out of the backfield. Especially when you add in Brandon Marshall, Eddie Royal, Tony Sheffler, Brandon Stokley and company.
Will Knowshon start? When will he be named the starter? Can you see a rookie of the year award for Moreno?

I think Knowshon will be the starter, if not Game 1, very early on in the season. Like you said it probably all hinges on his ability to learn the playbook quickly. I can see him starting and getting a majority of carries and touches on 1st and 2nd down, but in obvious passing situations, like 3rd and long, McDaniels may put in Buckhalter for his experience and route running. Hillis will be mainly a blocker and receiving threat out of the backfield. Lamont Jordan looks to be our short yardage back, in which we will have a running back by committee for roughly the first half of the season. As Knowshon gains experience and confidence taking live bullets in games that matter, he will get more touches and evolve into the feature back we are all hoping he is. By season's end Knowshon should be a top candidate for Rookie of the Year and an up and coming superstar.

Typically when you draft a running back early in the first round he starts. And damit he better start or why the hell did we draft him.
